What is the Mason Promise Scholarship?
The Mason Promise Scholarship is a community organization of volunteers that guarantees funding for two years of Lansing Community College education to selected Mason Public School students. These selected students are chosen by the Mason Public Schools at the end of the fifth grade and then become a Mason Promise Scholar through an induction ceremony. Over the course of the next six years, these students receive mentoring and support as well as introduction to career possibilities through the Pathway Program.
Who is eligible for the Mason Promise Scholarship?
Mason Promise Scholars were initiated into the program as sixth graders and must be enrolled in Mason Public Schools (MPS) or an affiliated MPS program at least 75% of their 6th through 12th grade years, and must be enrolled their entire final year.
How can I apply for the Mason Promise Scholarship?
No one can "apply" for the Mason Promise Scholarship. Students were initiated into the Mason Promise Scholarship Program as sixth graders.
What requirements must be met by students to maintain their Mason Promise Scholarship eligibility?
Attend & Graduate: Scholars must be enrolled in Mason Public Schools (MPS) or an affiliated MPS program at least 75% of their 6th through 12th grade years, and must be enrolled their entire final year.
College Application: Students must apply and be accepted to Lansing Community College.
FAFSA: Students must apply by March 1st online at studentaid.gov for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and complete LCC Financial Aid Student Requirements by July 1st each year.
Attendance:
- Students must attend LCC within two-years of high school graduation.
- Students must attend LCC before reaching age 21.
Academic Standing: Mason Promise Scholars are expected to stay in GOOD Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Status while attending LCC. Mason Promise Scholar academic standing is monitored by LCC's K-12 Scholarship Coordinator. If a student falls into Warning or Suspended SAP Status, LCC's K-12 Scholarship Coordinator will reach out to scholar with specific expectations and deadlines to maintain scholarship eligibility.
Why do I have to file the FAFSA if I have the Mason Promise Scholarship?
The Mason Promise Scholarship is a "last dollar" scholarship which means that state and federal financial gift-aid* are awarded to a student's account prior to the Mason Promise Scholarship awarding.
File the FAFSA at studentaid.gov each year by March 1st for the following academic year and complete LCC Financial Aid Student Requirements in student's myLCC account by July 1st each year. If you need help with the FAFSA or Financial Aid Student Requirements, reach out to the LCC Financial Aid Office or the StarZone.

Can I still receive my Mason Promise Scholarship if my FAFSA was "Rejected"?
The Mason Promise Scholarship is a "last dollar" scholarship which means that state and federal financial gift-aid* are awarded to a student's account prior to the Mason Promise Scholarship awarding.
If you receive a "Rejected" FAFSA error, you are required to fix the error in order to have a completed FAFSA on file at LCC and be considered for Mason Promise Scholarship funds. Please log into your FAFSA account and fix the errors that caused the rejection. The deadline to complete is July 1st of each year.

If your FAFSA was selected for "Verification", please log into your myLCC student account and complete the steps for verification under Financial Aid Student Requirements. The deadline to complete is July 1st of each year.

Is there a minimum amount of credits scholars need to register for at LCC to receive the Mason Promise Scholarship?
Yes, students are required to be enrolled as full-time students in order to receive the Mason Promise Scholarship. Fall and spring semester full-time is equal to 12 credits; summer semester full-time is equal to 6 credits.
Are Mason Promise Scholars required to register for classes at LCC the fall semester after graduating from High School?
No, Mason Promise Scholars do not need to start at LCC the fall semester after high school graduation; however, scholars are required to start within 2-year of high school graduation and before age 21.
Can Mason Promise Scholars take a gap year between high school and attending LCC?
Yes, Mason Promise Scholars are eligible to take a gap year between high school and college; however, scholars are required to start within 2-year of high school graduation and before age 21.
Can Mason Promise Scholars take a semester off after beginning at LCC?
Yes, Mason Promise Scholars are eligible to take a gap year between high school and college; however, once scholars start at LCC, they have 2-years of scholarship eligibility at LCC whether they take a semester off or not.
Will the Mason Promise Scholarship pay for summer classes at LCC?
Yes, Mason Promise Scholars are eligible (but not required) to be registered for classes at LCC using their Mason Promise Scholarship during the summer semester, but only after completion of their first full fall and/or spring semester at LCC.
Does the Mason Promise Scholarship have a minimum GPA requirement?
