Lansing Community College's Veteran and Military Affairs assists student veterans and their families with obtaining and navigating benefits, providing free counseling, a computer lab, a dedicated advisor and study lounges. LCC has one of the largest military-connected student populations in the state of Michigan for community colleges.

Admissions Checklist

1. MEET WITH LCC'S Center for Veteran and Family Support

Expert staff help you navigate through admissions, determine VA education benefits and plan your academic pathway. Schedule your appointment with the Veteran Resource Center. During this appointment, you will also sign up for the VA Student Information Session.

2. APPLY FOR VETERAN BENEFITS

Visit vets.gov to apply for your benefits online.

PRO TIP: Visit the LCC Center for Veteran and Family Support. Our can staff help you apply for your VA benefits and guide you through the LCC application process.

3. APPLY TO LCC

Apply online or in person at any student services location. You will need:

  • Your Address
  • Contact Information
  • Education History
  • Intended Program of Study
  • Social Security Number (Required for Financial Aid)

Pro Tip: Visit the Veteran Resource Center (VRC) at the Downtown Campus. Get in-person assistance with the application and meet with an advisor to explore academic programs.

4. ACTIVATE OR RECOVER YOUR STUDENT ACCOUNT

After you apply and receive your student number (X00…), activate your LCC account.

5. Establish Placement Levels

Placement levels (and sometimes, prerequisite courses) are required in order to register for classes. There are a few ways you can establish levels:

  1. Upload your unofficial college transcript with our waiver. LCC also accepts SAT/ACT scores and high school GPA (within 3 years). Upload any or all of these documents through our waiver.
  2. If you are not able to access any of the above documents, you can take our placement tests.
6. Orientation

Orientation is required for new students and will help you learn more about financial aid, required coursework, and student success. Sign up for a session.

7. REGISTER FOR CLASSES

After completing the steps above, you are ready to register for classes! If you need help, reach out to your Success Coach or visit the Veterans Resource Center (VRC) in the Huron Building. You can also register on your own in Banner, just log into MyLCC.

8. CERTIFY YOUR BENEFITS

Complete necessary paperwork so we can certify your enrollment to the VA.

9. Checkout the VA Student Informational Presentation

During your first meeting with the LCC Center for Veteran and Family Support, you should have signed up for the info session. If you are not signed up for an info session, please call (517) 483-5246. These sessions are held during the first two weeks of each semester.
