What is the H.O.P.E. Scholarship?
The H.O.P.E. Scholarship Program offers Lansing School District youth an opportunity for a college education & a brighter future. Students were initiated into the program as sixth graders & promised to finish high school within the Lansing School District; in exchange students receive up to 65 credits within a four-year window of free tuition, books, and fees at Lansing Community College.
Who is eligible for the H.O.P.E. Scholarship?
Lansing School District students were inducted into the H.O.P.E. Scholarship Program as sixth graders. Inducted students and their parents/guardians were required to sign and turn in the H.O.P.E. Scholarship Compact by end of the school year of induction.
How can I apply for the H.O.P.E. Scholarship?
No one can "apply" for the H.O.P.E. Scholarship. Lansing School District students were inducted into the H.O.P.E. Scholarship Program as sixth graders. Inducted students and their parents/guardians were required to sign and turn in the H.O.P.E. Scholarship Compact by end of the school year of induction.
What requirements must be met by students to maintain their H.O.P.E. Scholarship eligibility?
Residency: Students must live within the Lansing School District boundaries from the sixth grade through high school graduation.
K12 Enrollment: Students must attend 6-12 grade and graduate from a charter or public school within the Lansing School District.
College Application: Students must apply and be accepted to Lansing Community College.
Lansing Promise Application: Students must apply to the Lansing Promise Scholarship by April 1st (for fall semester start).
FAFSA: Students must apply by March 1st online at studentaid.gov for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and complete LCC Financial Aid Student Requirements by July 1st each year.
Attendance:
- Students must attend LCC the fall after high school graduation.
- Students must be registered for classes at LCC consecutive fall and spring semesters.
Academic Standing: H.O.P.E. Scholars are expected to stay in GOOD Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Status while attending LCC. H.O.P.E. Scholar academic standing is monitored by LCC's K-12 Scholarship Coordinator. If a student falls into Warning or Suspended SAP Status, LCC’s K-12 Scholarship Coordinator will reach out to scholar with specific expectations and deadlines to maintain scholarship eligibility.
Why do I have to file the FAFSA if I have the H.O.P.E. Scholarship?
The H.O.P.E. Scholarship is a "last dollar" scholarship which means that state and federal financial gift-aid* are awarded to a student’s account prior to the H.O.P.E. Scholarship awarding.
File the FAFSA at studentaid.gov each year by March 1st for the following academic year and complete LCC Financial Aid Student Requirements in student's myLCC account by July 1st each year. If you need help with the FAFSA or Financial Aid Student Requirements, reach out to the LCC Financial Aid Office or the StarZone.
*Gift Aid is defined by Federal, State, or Private funds that do not require re-payment.
Can I still receive my H.O.P.E. Scholarship if my FAFSA was "Rejected"?
The H.O.P.E. Scholarship is a "last dollar" scholarship which means that state and federal financial gift-aid* are awarded to a student's account prior to the H.O.P.E. Scholarship awarding.
If you receive a "Rejected" FAFSA error, you are required to fix the error in order to have a completed FAFSA on file at LCC and be considered for H.O.P.E. Scholarship funds. Please log into your FAFSA account and fix the errors that caused the rejection. The deadline to complete is July 1st of each year.

If your FAFSA was selected for "Verification", please log into your myLCC student account and complete the steps for verification under Financial Aid Student Requirements. The deadline to complete is July 1st of each year.

Is there a minimum amount of credits scholars need to register for at LCC to receive the H.O.P.E. Scholarship?
No, there is no minimum or maximum credit limit; however, H.O.P.E. Scholars are required to be registered for classes at and attend LCC consecutive fall and spring semesters to maintain their scholarship.
Are H.O.P.E. Scholars required to register for classes at Lansing Community College (LCC) the fall semester after graduating from High School?
Yes, H.O.P.E. Scholars are required to be register for classes at LCC the fall semester after high school graduation to receive their scholarship. If they do not register for classes at LCC the fall after high school graduation they forfeit their H.O.P.E. Scholarship.
Can H.O.P.E. Scholars take a gap year between high school and attending LCC?
No, H.O.P.E. Scholars are required to be register for classes at and attend LCC the fall after high school graduation. If they do not register for classes at and attend LCC the fall after high school graduation they forfeit their H.O.P.E. Scholarship.
Can H.O.P.E. Scholars take a semester off after beginning at LCC?
No, H.O.P.E. Scholars are required to be register for classes at and attend LCC consecutive fall and spring semesters. If they do not register in classes at and attend LCC during either a fall or spring semester during their eligible scholarship time and credit lime, they forfeit their H.O.P.E. Scholarship.
Will the H.O.P.E. Scholarship pay for summer classes at LCC?
Yes, H.O.P.E. Scholars are eligible (but not required) to be registered for classes at LCC using their H.O.P.E. Scholarship during the summer semester.
Does the H.O.P.E. Scholarship have a minimum GPA requirement?
