What is the Lansing Promise Scholarship?
The Lansing Promise is a scholarship program offering tuition assistance for post-secondary (college or skilled trade) education to all eligible high school graduates within the Lansing School District boundaries. The Lansing Promise provides tuition assistance for up to 65 credits within a 4-year time frame at Lansing Community College.
Who is eligible for the Lansing Promise Scholarship?
Students that live within the Lansing School District boundaries from 9th-12th grades and graduate from a high school or homeschool within the Lansing School District boundaries.
How can I apply for the Lansing Promise Scholarship?
Visit lansingpromise.org/apply. High school graduates have one-year from high school graduation to submit their Lansing Promise Scholarship application for scholarship consideration.
What requirements must be met by students to maintain their Lansing Promise Scholarship eligibility?
Residency: Students must live within the Lansing School District boundaries from the 9th-12th
Attend & Graduate: Students must attend 9-12 grade and graduate from a high school or homeschool within the Lansing School District boundaries.
College Application: Students must apply and be accepted to Lansing Community College.
Lansing Promise Application: Students must apply to the Lansing Promise Scholarship by April 1st (for fall semester start) or by November 1st (for spring semester start)
FAFSA: Students must apply by March 1st online at studentaid.gov for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and complete LCC Financial Aid Student Requirements by July 1st each year.
Academic Standing: Lansing Promise Scholars are expected to stay in GOOD Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Status while attending LCC. Lansing Promise Scholar academic standing is monitored by LCC's K-12 Scholarship Coordinator. If a student falls into Warning or Suspended SAP Status, LCC's K-12 Scholarship Coordinator will reach out to scholar with specific expectations and deadlines to maintain scholarship eligibility.
Why do I have to file the FAFSA if I have the Lansing Promise Scholarship?
The Lansing Promise Scholarship is a "last dollar" scholarship which means that state and federal financial gift-aid* are awarded to a student's account prior to the Lansing Promise Scholarship awarding.
File the FAFSA at studentaid.gov each year by March 1st for the following academic year and complete LCC Financial Aid Student Requirements in student's myLCC account by July 1st each year. If you need help with the FAFSA or Financial Aid Student Requirements, reach out to the LCC Financial Aid Office or the StarZone.

Can I still receive my Lansing Promise Scholarship if my FAFSA was "Rejected"?
The Lansing Promise Scholarship is a "last dollar" scholarship which means that state and federal financial gift-aid* are awarded to a student's account prior to the Lansing Promise Scholarship awarding.
If you receive a "Rejected" FAFSA error, you are required to fix the error in order to have a completed FAFSA on file at LCC and be considered for Lansing Promise Scholarship funds. Please log into your FAFSA account and fix the errors that caused the rejection. The deadline to complete is July 1st of each year.

If your FAFSA was selected for "Verification", please log into your myLCC student account and complete the steps for verification under Financial Aid Student Requirements. The deadline to complete is July 1st of each year.

No, there is no minimum or maximum credit limit for student to be registered in to receive the Lansing Promise Scholarship.
Are Lansing Promise Scholars required to register for classes at Lansing Community College (LCC) the fall semester after graduating from High School?
No, Lansing Promise Scholars do not need to start at LCC the fall semester after high school graduation; however, scholars have 65 credits to attempt within 4-years of high school graduation whether they start at LCC the fall semester after high school or not.
Can Lansing Promise Scholars take a gap year between high school and attending LCC?
Yes, Lansing Promise Scholars are eligible to take a gap year between high school and college; however, scholars have 65 credits to attempt within 4-years of high school graduation whether they take a gap year or not.
Can Lansing Promise Scholars take a semester off after beginning at LCC?

Will the Lansing Promise Scholarship pay for summer classes at LCC?
Yes, Lansing Promise Scholars are eligible (but not required) to be registered for classes at LCC using their Lansing Promise Scholarship during the summer semester.
