Students applying from outside the U.S. should apply according to the instructions on the M1 and F1 webpage.

Students with F-1 or M-1 visas who wish to transfer from another U.S. college or university should apply according to the instructions on the M1 and F1 webpage.

Students who wish to study as a guest student at LCC should apply according to the instructions on the International Guest Students webpage.

Students with visa types other than F-1 or M-1 should apply according to the instructions on the Other Visa not F-1/M-1 webpage.

Students who are permanent residents of the U.S. including green card holders and refugees should apply according to the instructions on the Admissions webpage.

Students must be 18 years of age at the time their first semester of attendance begins. However, students may apply for admission to LCC up to one year in advance of their planned start date. Admission to the college does not guarantee eligibility for a Form I-20. Students should submit an official transcript showing the courses they have completed and a letter in English from their school stating that they are currently enrolled and their expected date of completion. They will be required to provide proof of high school completion upon arrival.

Sometimes applicants have a friend or relative in the U.S. who has agreed to assist them in getting admitted to a U.S. school. If a student wishes for LCC to provide information about their application status or their Form I-20 to someone other than themselves, they must give LCC written permission to do so. If naming a personal representative, they should make sure that the individual has agreed to assist them.

To name a personal representative, type or write a letter that provides the name, address, and telephone number of the personal representative. The letter should indicate that the person is authorized to act as the student’s personal representative and if they are to receive correspondence regarding the student’s admission application and Form I-20. The student must type or print their name at the bottom of the letter as it appears on their application and sign and date the statement.

Authorization for Personal Representative needs to come directly from the student.

English Proficiency is a student’s ability to use the English language to make and communicate meaning verbally and in writing during their program of study. LCC requires students to demonstrate English Proficiency in order to participate in both academic and English as a Second Language programs. Students have several options to demonstrate the four domains (reading, writing, speaking and listening) of English Proficiency. Form I-20s are never issued before admission is approved. Form I-20s, in accordance with U.S. Department of Homeland Security (USDHS) regulations, are sent directly to the student unless the student has named a personal representative.

LCC issues Form I-20s to begin courses during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Certificate programs are only eligible for the M-1 visa. Students with an M-1 visa may NOT change to the F-1 visa to complete their study at the associate degree level without returning to their home country.

Students pursuing a program of study that is fully online are not eligible for an F-1 or M-1 visa. There are limitations on online study for F-1 and M-1 students. Currently, the temporary exemption for online courses will continue for the new academic year.

A student would need to request a credit evaluation report prepared by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) to be sent directly to the registrar’s office at LCC. All documents submitted for consideration must be in English. All credit evaluation reports and transcripts submitted to LCC for transfer credit evaluation become the property of LCC and will not be returned to the student. 

Very few financial aid opportunities exist for international students to study in the U.S. at the undergraduate level. LCC offers Foundation scholarships every year for qualified students. For more information, please visit Foundation Scholarships.

LCC does not maintain housing units for students, or enter into third party contracts or supervise off-campus housing. Home stay placements are not arranged by LCC. Campus life offers a housing information service. This service consists of listings from property owners regarding available housing (type, location, cost), and listings from students looking for others to share housing. This information is available on the Off-Campus Housing website.

It is recommended that new students who need to arrange for housing arrive in the Lansing area 2 to 3 weeks before the start of their first semester.

Orientation is a mandatory introduction to LCC, offered in a self-paced course within Desire2Learn (D2L), LCC’s online course management system. When an F-1 or M-1 student receives their Form I-20, orientation will be made available to them and they can access D2L through their myLCC account. Students will receive information about USDHS regulations related to international students, student services offered at LCC, academic advising, and more. Orientation must be completed prior to registering in courses.
