Individuals who are admitted to the United States in a temporary, non-resident status (any type of visa) are considered international students. Individuals admitted to the United States as refugees, immigrants, or green card holders are not considered international students for the purpose of admissions.

Below please find a list of documentation required for students requesting a Form I-20 for F-1 or M-1 study. If you are currently attending another institution in the United States, please review information for transfer students.
Estimated Costs for International Students
Provide completed Affidavit of Financial Resources with required supporting documents. Financial documents must be dated within 6 months of the start of the students' program.
2024-2025 Academic Year Estimated Cost for F-1 or M-1 visa
Estimated costs for one year of full-time study at Lansing Community College are as follows: Tuition and fees 1 $13,125.00 1 - Based on full-time enrollment of 12 credit hours per semester during the academic year and 6 credit hours during the summer session. Tuition and fees are based on $420 per billing hour. Tuition and fees are subject to change at any time upon action of the Board of Trustees. Room and board 2 $15,445.00 2 - This cost estimate is based on a 12-month lease in modest accommodations in the surrounding college community, with the student preparing most meals at home. Books and supplies 3 $675.00 3 - Based on purchase or rental of a combination of new or used textbooks and Open Educational Resources (OER) for an average academic program. Certain specialties may have higher costs. Health insurance 4 $600.00 4 - Health insurance is strongly encouraged. Students may purchase insurance in their own countries or they may purchase student insurance from companies in the United States. Transportation 5 $312.00 5 - Based on public transportation (not including Rideshare). Does not include purchase price of private auto or transportation to and from the United States. Students are responsible to make housing and meal arrangements. Funds to pay for classes and all other expenses should be immediately available upon students' arrival in the United States. Students and their sponsors should determine how and when sponsors will provide funds to make sure adequate finances for living and educational expenses are available throughout the year. Lansing Community College does not provide financial assistance or emergency funds.

Proof of High School (secondary) Completion
One of the following should be submitted as proof of high school (secondary) completion:
- High School Diploma
- Transcript showing all courses taken, grades received and graduation date
- Certificate of national examination results
- Official college or university transcript
*Certified copies of documentation should be submitted. A certified copy is an original document or attested (signed with official stamp or seal) photocopy that has been issued by the educational institution or government agency responsible for issuing the document. An official English translation must accompany all documents.
Note to applicants: You may apply up to one year in advance for admission to the start date you desire. (Students who have not yet completed high school should submit an official transcript and a letter in English from their school confirming their enrollment and expected date of completion).
Personal Statement
Write a few paragraphs explaining your previous educational and employment background and your future educational and career plans.
Proof of English Proficiency
English Proficiency is a student’s ability to use the English language to make and communicate meaning verbally and in writing during their program of study. LCC requires students to demonstrate English Proficiency in order to participate in academic programs.
Students have several options to demonstrate the four domains (reading, writing, speaking and listening) of English Proficiency:

IB TOEFL (Internet Based Test of English as a Foreign (World) Language) Total score of 65 or more with no section score below 16 International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Total score of 6.0 or more with no section score below 6.0 Pearson Test of English Total score of 46 or more SAT Evidence-Based Reading/Writing score of 480 or more ACT ACT Reading score of 18 or more / ACT English score between 18-26 LCC Placement Tests (internet based proctoring available) Reading level 5 and Writing Level 6 Test reports for TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, SAT, and ACT must be received directly from those testing centers and be no more than two (2) years old. You may submit a copy of your test scores for review. Final consideration for an LCC Form I-20 will begin when the test reports are received from the testing center. The TOEFL and SAT institution code for LCC is 1414. The ACT institution code for LCC is 2019.
Students who have previously completed post-secondary study at a US college or university may submit an unofficial copy of their academic transcript to lcc-testing-services@lcc.edu for evaluation for English Proficiency and placement levels.
LCC Placement tests are offered in several formats, including testing centers at the Downtown Campus, East Campus, Livingston Campus, and West Campus. Virtual remote proctoring and Testing with an off-campus proctor is also available. To find out more about testing options, students should contact LCC Testing Services at lcc-testing-services@lcc.edu or by calling 517-267-5500. Students applying from outside the US will be given directions to participate in our off-campus testing options. In order to complete placement testing, students are required to have a Banner ID number, which is created when students submit an application.

Students are asked to provide a scan or photocopy of the information page of their current passport.
Dependents
Please submit the form below if you will have F-2 dependents (spouse and children ONLY). Please note that you will need to prove an additional $4,540 per dependent on your affidavit of financial resources.

Transfer
ALREADY STUDYING IN THE USA?
Students currently attending another U.S. college who intend to come to LCC, obtain a LCC Form I-20, and work toward a program of study must submit the following documents in addition to the documents listed above:
- 1. A copy of your current Form I-20, front and back.
- 2. A photocopy of the current visa page from your passport.
- 3. A photocopy of your current I-94 card.
- 4. A completed PDF File LCC transfer in form (detailed instructions regarding international transfer applications).
CREDIT TRANSFER
If you have completed course work at another college or university, either in the United States or another country, you may choose to apply for transfer credit by submitting an official transcript from your previous school. If your transcript is being submitted from a school outside of Michigan, course descriptions may be required. Students submitting non-US transcripts for credit transfer evaluation should request a credit evaluation report prepared by a member organization of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES) to be sent directly to LCC at Records Office, Lansing Community College, 411 W Grand Ave, Lansing MI 48933-1215.
Please contact one of the NACES member organizations listed at naces.org to obtain a credit evaluation request form.
*It is the students' responsibility to provide the necessary materials for a transcript evaluation to occur.
*Official transcripts should sent directly from school to school. Hand delivered transcripts, even sealed in envelopes, are not accepted for official transfer credit evaluation but may be used for academic advising or counseling.

PRIORITY PROCESSING DATES
Note to All Applicants: We recommend that you submit your documents early in order to be considered for the term you are interested in. Documents should be received at least three weeks prior to the start of term to ensure sufficient processing time. If your application materials arrive too late to be processed for the semester you entered on your application, you will be directed to choose a future semester. Lansing Community College makes the final decision on which semester you will be admitted.
Applications are processed in the order received. Typical processing time is 2-3 weeks. Acceptance materials including the Form I-20 will be delivered electronically to your LCC student email address in PDF format. Applicants outside the US should apply as early as possible to allow adequate time for obtaining a visa and making travel arrangements. Visa processing times are different in each country.
