Lansing Community College
Who are Counselors?
A licensed Professional Counselor is characterized by:
  1. Having the primary duty and responsibility of providing specialized licensed professional counseling to address personal, social, emotional and physical issues and needs impacting the students' education;
  2. Functioning as a resource of instruction in a variety of settings, providing psychoeducation for coping skills, stress management, mental health awareness, etc.; and
  3. Functioning as the primary participant in crisis counseling, behavioral intervention services and other high level assessment situations.
Why Seek Counseling?

Confidential counseling helps students identify and resolve personal and interpersonal issues and concerns. It is expected that students will be able to address these issues with a counselor in ten sessions or less. However, extensions will be considered based upon the counselor's professional discretion. Students are also allowed to return at a later date if needed. If it becomes apparent the student needs extensive therapy, the counselor will assist the student in identifying a counselor in the community.
