Academic Resources at LCC provide the help and support you need to maintain a great GPA and complete your program quickly and cost-effectively.
Tutoring: The Learning Commons
The Learning Commons employs professional tutors available by appointment or walk-in. It is located on the first and second floors of the Technology and Learning Center (TLC) Building at the Downtown Campus and assists students with challenging coursework in all subject areas.
Though tutors are available at all LCC locations, the Learning Commons lends additional resources including biology models, technology and textbooks. Online tutoring is also available 24/7 through Desire2Learn (D2L).
The Writing Center
Writing assistants are available by in-person and online appointments to help with brainstorming, idea organization, citations, style and mechanics.
Success Coaches
Success coaches are assigned to students and provide one-on-one mentoring and support throughout their academic career at LCC. They offer guidance on time management, financial literacy and connect students to college and professional resources. They are mentors, listeners, encourages, staff ambassadors, liaisons and advocates.

The LCC Office of Student Life registers 30+ student clubs and organizations that enhance your academic experience.
Transfer Opportunities
Our “Start here. Get there.” motto translates to completing a degree or certificate, or getting to your intended four-year institution to achieve your academic and career goals. LCC has unique transfer partnerships and agreements with Michigan’s best universities- some even right in Lansing at the Transfer Center.
The Science and Innovation Center
Students and faculty can collaborate and experiment on projects outside of the classroom in this specialized lab in the Arts and Sciences Building. Science, math and engineering clubs often gather in this location to work on extracurricular projects. Students may also use this space for additional experiments and research under the supervision of professional lab associates.
Free Textbooks with OER
Textbook costs are burdensome to students and their families; with the OERs, students can receive free online textbooks or significantly reduce the cost of printed versions.
Open Education Resources, or OERs, are free, approved online learning materials shared through a database of other colleges and universities. The materials allow faculty to tailor their course materials to better fit their students’ learning.
