Heavy equipment repair technicians are responsible for the efficient, timely and proper repair of various heavy-duty construction and road equipment. Technicians must be knowledgeable in all related systems, including diesel engines, fuel systems, powertrains, electronics and hydraulics, to diagnose problems and plan repairs with consideration for safety, MIOSHA, and environmental guidelines.
Education and training developed in partnership with leading industry experts
LCC's Heavy Equipment Repair Technician program prepares students with the skills, knowledge and hands-on experience required to meet the demands of local industry employers who often struggle to find qualified technicians to maintain their fleets. LCC partners with one of Michigan's leading construction equipment companies, AIS Construction Equipment Corp., to develop a highly specialized curriculum relevant to the latest industry standards and technology so graduates are ready to secure a job upon successfully completing the program. Additionally, the program is accredited by the Associated Equipment Distribution Foundation (AED), a non-profit associated with the international trade association for equipment distributors, manufacturers and service providers, ensuring its educational and safety standards align with local, national and global industry standards.
A program convenient for working individuals
Attending school full-time is often not an option for those with jobs, families or other commitments. This program was developed with students' busy schedules in mind and courses are offered in the evenings to accommodate their other obligations.
Classes begin in January (spring semester), June (summer semester), or August (fall semester) each year, and these programs can often be completed in less than two years or five semesters.
If you have questions about the program or would like direction on how to start, contact the Transportation Maintenance Technologies Department.
