Securities and mutual funds that have increased in value and been held for more than one year are popular assets to use when making a gift to the Lansing Community College Foundation. Making a gift of stock offers you a chance to support our students and mission while also realizing benefits for yourself.
When you donate appreciated securities or mutual funds to the LCC Foundation, you can reduce or even eliminate federal capital gains taxes on the transfer. You may also be entitled to a federal income tax charitable deduction based on the fair market value of the securities at the time of the transfer.
What are some benefits of giving stock?
- By avoiding capital gains taxes on your gift, you can give more with gifts of securities and mutual funds than by just writing a check, up to 20% more.
- Donating securities is easy and secure. The LCC Foundation has established a depository trust account with Charles Schwab to accept gifts of securities.
- Your gift will be put to use today, allowing you to see the difference your donation is making.
