Lansing Community College

Transfer/Guest Student Checklist

1. Apply to the College

Apply online or in person at any student services location. You will need:

  • Your Address
  • Contact Information
  • Education History
  • Intended Program of Study
  • Social Security Number (Required for Financial Aid)

Pro Tip: Visit the StarZone and meet with our admissions team. Get in-person assistance with the application and meet with an advisor to explore academic programs.

Note: Choose Guest or Transfer student on your LCC application if you have attended college somewhere besides LCC.

2. Activate or Recover Your Student Account

After you apply and receive your student number (X00…) activate your LCC account.

3. ASSESSMENT

Placement levels (and sometimes, prerequisite courses) are required in order to register for classes. There are a few ways you can establish levels:

  1. Upload your unofficial college transcript with our waiver. LCC also accepts SAT/ACT scores and high school GPA (within 3 years). Upload any or all of these documents through our waiver.
  2. If you are not able to access any of the above documents, you can take our placement tests.
4. Transfer Credit

If you are planning to earn a degree or certificate at LCC you should have your previous college send your official college credit to LCC. Once LCC receives this, we will assess it for any official transfer credit. This can take up to 4-6 weeks.

5. Orientation/Advising

As a transfer/guest student, orientation is not required. You are welcome to attend a session if you would like!

Your next step is to see an Academic Advisor* to plan out your courses. Check out advising options (including appointments, drop ins, and online advising).

*If possible, bring a copy of your unofficial transcript to refer to when meeting with an advisor.

6. REGISTER FOR CLASSES

After completing the steps above, you are ready to register for classes! If you need help, reach out to your Success Coach or visit the StarZone in the Gannon Building. You can also register on your own in Banner, just log into MyLCC.
