Train for a career in local corrections and keep your community safe with the LCC Local Corrections Academy at Lansing Community College. The 4- week program will provide students with 160 hours of training designed for basic local corrections skills. The curriculum will cover such topics as Correctional Law, Prisoner Mental Health, Custody and Security, Stress Management, Cultural Diversity, Ethics, and First Aid and CPR.
After successful completion of the academy, and certification exam, a recruit becomes eligible to become certifiable as a local corrections officer through the Michigan Sheriff Coordinating and Training Council (MSCTC). MSCTC establishes the minimum standards required to be employed as a local corrections officer in the State of Michigan. Those standards can be found at the MSCTC website.

Apply to LCC
Complete the admissions application to become an official LCC student. Once you click "apply" on any LCC webpage, you will be asked to create an admissions login and to select an admission type. To complete the application, you will need to know you SSN, email address and address of residence.

Once you have a completed the college's general application, you may apply to the Corrections Academy.
