Lansing Community College

Interdisciplinary Humanities Program

The Humanities include those broadly related disciplines that strive to understand the significance and adventure of what it means to be human. Typically, scholars within the Humanities study those human creations that give voice to our diverse and evolving understanding of ourselves. Interdisciplinary Humanities at LCC include the study of Religion, Philosophy, Mythology, Art History, Music History, and Literature.

The study of the humanities, by which we mean the disciplines of literature, philosophy, religion, history, and the arts, is necessary if a student is to claim that he/she is well-educated. The truly well-educated person is one who has gained not only the practical skills necessary for succeeding in a career but also has expanded the mind and heart through the study of thought, culture, and artistic expression. Studying the liberal arts brings awareness and understanding of the world, of the people in it, and of the individual.
