Your education in Lansing Community College's child development program will prepare you for a career working with children of all ages. Lansing Community College offers three program options in Child Development and Early Education. Each addresses various components of high-quality early education and care in a variety of settings and for all ages, including infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school-aged children.
The Child Development and Early Education Associate in Applied Arts Degree at Lansing Community College is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education Programs of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The accreditation term runs from 03/2018 to 03/2025.

Overview
This is a 62-credit program that can be completed in a minimum of four semesters. It qualifies individuals to be teachers or program directors in early education and care programs.

- Employ inclusive evidence-based teaching strategies that are culturally, developmentally, and linguistically appropriate to create positive, anti-bias, and supportive relationships and interactions with each and every child that reflect the principles of universal design for learning.
- Apply knowledge of the content of the academic disciplines (e.g., language and literacy, the arts, mathematics, social studies, science, technology and engineering, physical education) and the pedagogical methods for teaching using early learning standards and professional resources to make instructional decisions and support instructional practice, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation to engage and support each and every child's learning.

Child Development and Early Education, CC
Overview
This certificate program prepares individuals for gainful, entry-level positions as assistant teachers, lead teachers, or program directors in early childhood education and care programs. The curriculum is aligned with the standards issued by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Michigan Early Childhood Core Knowledge and Core Competencies. Courses for the certificate can be applied toward the associate degree. This curriculum requires two semesters to complete, not including summer. One course of daytime field work in an early education and child care settings is required.

Education, GA
Overview
This degree is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in education, either through employment as a teacher paraprofessional or a preschool teacher/administrator in a daycare setting, or through transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Education leading to teacher certification in the state of Michigan. This Career Community includes the following pathways: Child Development and Early Education, Education, and Teacher Paraprofessional. This degree includes a set of courses common to all majors under this umbrella and to the majority of transfer institutions. Students beginning college in this degree program are encouraged to work with academic and program advisors throughout their first few semesters of study to determine their specific major area and transfer institution (if transfer is a goal).
