Do your part and register to vote!
How do I register to vote?
To vote in Michigan, you must be:
- A Michigan resident (at the time you register) and a resident of your city or township for at least 30 days (when you vote)
- A U.S. citizen
- At least 18 years of age (by election day)
- Not currently serving a sentence in jail or prison
Also, you must be registered to vote … but how does that happen?
- Register online! Michigan allows all residents of voting age with a state-issued ID to register online.
- Register in person or by mail. If you do not have a state-issued ID, have trouble with digital forms or cannot register to vote online for any reason, you can register to vote in person or by mail.
- Register to vote on campus. The City Clerk will hold a Voter Registration Drive from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 16-19 at LCC's Arts & Sciences Building, on Downtown Campus.
Did you know?
- Michigan does not restrict voting rights based on past criminal offenses, felony or misdemeanor. All Michigan residents who have been convicted of a crime automatically regain their right to vote upon their release from custody; however, if this applies to you, you should still re-register using the steps listed above.
- You will be asked to show ID when you check in to vote. If you don’t have one, you can still vote. If this happens, expect a poll worker to ask you to sign a form before you vote that explains you didn’t have an ID. Your ballot will be included with all others and counted.
