LCC implements Proofpoint to protect your email from cyber threats
Welcome to a safer, more connected digital environment! At LCC, we prioritize your safety online as much as your success in the classroom. That’s why we’ve partnered with Proofpoint, a leading cybersecurity platform designed to protect your email from cyber threats such as phishing, email scams and malware.
Proofpoint helps you ensure that your email communication and sensitive information
remain secure, allowing you to focus on your education without worrying as much about
cyber risks. It works behind the scenes to safeguard your email, identify potential
threats and provide real-time protection.
Why is this important to you?
In today’s digital world, cybercriminals often target students with deceptive emails
and malicious links. Proofpoint detects and blocks these threats, helping to keep
your LCC accounts and personal information safe.
As an LCC student, here’s what Proofpoint is doing for you:
- Email Protection: Proofpoint helps to prevent phishing attacks and suspicious emails from reaching your inbox.
- Secure Communication: Proofpoint ensures your messages are sent and received securely, while making sure your emails come from sources that are who they say they are.
- Keeps You in Control: While you will never see the bulk of email coming from known bad actors, there will always be email that is borderline. Proofpoint will send you Quarantine Digests, which you will be able to use to identify good and bad emails. This allows you to finetune your email protection.
Understanding the Proofpoint Quarantine Digest
Although we do our best to filter out malicious and unwanted emails, legitimate emails
might occasionally be mistakenly quarantined. To keep you informed and in control,
Proofpoint sends a Quarantine Digest – a summary of emails that have been held back from your email box until you can
look at them and make your own determination. Here’s what it looks like:
Key features of the Quarantine Digest:
- Regular Summaries: You'll receive the digest at scheduled intervals, detailing emails quarantined since the last update.
- Message Details: Each entry includes the sender's address, subject line and the reason for quarantine, helping you quickly assess each email's legitimacy.
Actions you can take based on the Quarantine Digest:
- Release: If an email is legitimate, you can release it, delivering it to your inbox.
- Release & Allow: This option releases the email and adds the sender to your safe list, ensuring future emails from them are not quarantined.
- Block Sender: Prevent future emails from a specific sender by adding them to your blocked list.
- Manage My Account: Takes you to your Proofpoint email quarantine where you can view and modify your Allow and Block lists, and so you can view all of your quarantined emails in one place.
Best practices:
- Regularly Review Digests: Keep an eye on your digests to ensure no important emails are missed.
- Be Cautious: Only release emails you're confident are safe. If unsure, consult the LCC Helpdesk
- Update Safe and Blocked Lists: Maintain your lists to streamline your email experience and enhance security.
Coming soon! A button will be added to your LCC student email interface that will allow you to report questionable messages that were delivered to your inbox.
Stay vigilant, and remember that your online safety is a shared responsibility. LCC and Proofpoint are here to empower you with tools and knowledge to navigate the digital space securely. Together, let’s create a safe and productive environment for your academic journey!
