Join students, staff, and faculty for Black Voices, Bold Narratives—A Read-Aloud Experience, featuring guest speaker Nyshell Lawrence, a creative storyteller and entrepreneur.
As the proud owner of a thriving bookstore, Nyshell will share her journey as a champion for diverse literature and bring to life the works of impactful Black authors through her dynamic read-aloud session.

About the speaker
Nyshell Lawrence is a storyteller, creative entrepreneur, and the visionary founder of Socialight Society, an independent bookstore dedicated to amplifying Black women’s voices through curated literature, events, and community spaces. With a commitment to cultural advocacy, Nyshell creates environments where Black women feel seen, celebrated, and inspired to share their stories. Her work has been featured in The New York Times and Oprah’s Book Club, honoring her unique blend of creativity, entrepreneurship, and community focus. As a sought-after speaker, Nyshell delivers impactful talks on Black womanhood, faith, entrepreneurship, and creative expression. Her presentations combine personal insights, resilience, and actionable advice, connecting with audiences in authentic and memorable ways.
