Provost Sally Welch

Sally Welch, ProvostSally Welch began as provost in July 2019, following the Board of Trustees' May vote to approve her appointment. As provost, her key focus is supporting student success by embedding academic supports directly into the classroom, which provides resources to help students while they are enrolled in college-level courses. She also leads LCC toward creating innovative, flexible academic programs that prepare students for careers in cutting-edge fields.

Welch's career in higher education began as a chemistry professor at Marygrove College in Detroit. In addition to teaching, she held a number of leadership roles there, including co-chair of the Science and Mathematics Division, Faculty Assembly vice president, interim dean of New Program Development, and provost. This training in science and analytical thinking, background in teaching and experience in college administration proved the perfect skillset to helm LCC academics. She joined LCC in fall 2018 as the associate vice president for Academic Affairs and became provost nine months later.

Welch completed her undergraduate and graduate work in chemistry at Wayne State University. Since leaving graduate school, her research has focused on the scholarship of teaching.
