LCC Board of Trustees selects two new trustees
Vacant seats now filled
Trustees interviewed four candidates – Terry Frazier, Ronald Gillum, Becky Brewer and Noel Garcia, Jr., from a pool of 25 applicants during a special meeting on Monday, Jan. 29.
Dr. Terrence Frazier is the owner and chief operating officer of Sweet Encounter Bakery Café in downtown Lansing, and boasts more than 25 years of administrative experience. Dr. Frazier is currently the consultant for the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion at Michigan State University where he supports the chief diversity officer in leading MSU’s DEI Strategic Plan through collaboration with key stakeholders across the institution. Previously, Dr. Frasier served as assistant to the Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer at MSU. Dr. Frazier received the Hurley Goodall Distinguished Faculty/Staff Award from Ball State University and has accrued several other honors and awards. In addition, he has been the keynote speaker for several institutions, and has published work in several distinguished publications.
Mr. Noel Garcia, Jr., has served the Lansing Police Department for more than 25 years; first as a detective, and then ascending to detective sergeant, patrol sergeant, patrol lieutenant, public information officer as a lieutenant in Central Records, and finally to Internal Affairs commander. Upon retirement from the LPD, Mr. Garcia joined The Wilson Talent Center (Formerly the Capital Area Career Center) as a Law Enforcement Program instructor, a position he held for 10 years.
Dr. Frazier and Mr. Garcia took the “Acceptance of Office” and “Oath of Office” as members of the Board of Trustees at Monday’s special meeting. They will have an official swearing-in ceremony at the February Board of Trustees Meeting.
Frazier and Garcia were appointed to fill the trustee positions vacated by Andrew Abood and Ryan Buck, who resigned Jan. 1, 2024. The election to fill the remaining two years of Abood's position and the remaining four years of Buck’s position will be held at the next general election in November 2024.
