LCC bids farewell to trustees

By Karen Tommasulo

LANSING, Mich. – Lansing Community College and its Board of Trustees bid farewell to outgoing Trustee Lawrence Hidalgo Jr. for his 12 years of service and outgoing Trustee Dr. Samantha Vaive for her six years of dedicated work. Both trustees have made significant contributions to LCC, demonstrating exemplary leadership and a commitment to equity and education.

Hidalgo served as Board Chair during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, where he provided steady and decisive leadership amid great uncertainty. In the midst of the pandemic, he also played a crucial role in selecting LCC’s seventh president, Dr. Steve Robinson, ensuring a smooth transition and continued success for the college during a period of change and crisis.

Vaive was instrumental in ensuring that free feminine hygiene products were made available in restrooms at LCC, a significant step toward addressing the needs of the college's diverse student body. Additionally, her resolution advocating for the practice of Land Acknowledgments and the celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ Day at LCC will continue to be observed.

During their closing remarks, both trustees expressed their gratitude for serving and the opportunities provided by LCC throughout their time on the Board.
