Support Students in Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science
Claude Watson began teaching in the physics and electronics programs at LCC in 1958. He intended to work part-time while continuing to work on his Ph.D. in physics at Michigan State University. However, LCC’s rapid growth soon required his talents on a full-time basis and he continued teaching at LCC until his retirement in 1993. During his time at LCC, Claude found special satisfaction in encouraging outstanding students and helped to develop a special program for Honors Students, developed a self-paced program of physics, pioneered classroom computer support in the early 1970s and introduced computer-generated testing at LCC. His expertise and vision in the computer field lead to his appointment as the Lansing Community College Arts and Sciences Divisional Coordinator for Instructional Computing. He mentored several Chinese students and was sent by LCC to China on a sister-college exchange in 1987 and 1990. Many students and LCC peers were mentored and inspired by their association with Claude Watson.
His wife of 59 years, Anne, and his colleagues established this endowment to honor and memorialize the vision, dedication and enthusiasm that Claude Watson devoted to Lansing Community College, its students and faculty.
