Important things to know:

  • Students seeking a CY endorsement will receive a certificate of completion by email from the Michigan Rider Education Program upon successful completion of the Basic Rider Course or Experienced – Basic Rider Course 2. The certificate will provide further instructions to add the endorsement to the driver’s license.
  • All courses are $50, fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
  • eCourse information will be sent to the email address provided during registration. Successful eCourse completion is required to pass the class.

Prerequisites:

  • At least 15 years of age with a Stage 1 or higher valid Michigan Driver's License.
  • Ability to ride a bike.
  • Must be able to balance and support a two-wheeled motorcycle and operate manual hand and foot controls for shifting and braking.
  • Must sign a liability waiver. If under 18, a parent or guardian must sign the liability waiver.
  • Previous experience riding a motorcycle.

Certain classes will encourage participants to bring their own motorcycle for the course.

Motorcycle Safety Course Info

Requirements: Participants must have the ability to ride a bicycle.

Instructors: Your class will be taught by Rider Coaches who are certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and have years of experience.

What We Supply: Motorcycles used in endorsement training and classroom materials

What You Will Need To Bring:

  • Valid Michigan Driver's License (minimum Level 1)
  • DOT-compliant or Snell-approved helmet (Required for all students to wear during the safety training course)
  • Eye protection
  • Long-sleeved shirt or jacket
  • Long, non-flare pants made of denim or equivalent or more durable material
  • Full fingered gloves (preferably leather)
  • Over the ankle boots (leather preferred over cloth or canvas – high-top sneakers are not allowed)
  • eCourse Certificate

Important Information

  • You will be dismissed from the course if you present a danger to your safety or the safety of others during any exercise or evaluation in the course.
  • You must have no medical conditions or mental or physical limitations that would affect your learning or your safety or the learning or safety of others.
  • You must have not used, or be under the influence of alcohol, prescription or non-prescription drugs or any other substance that could impair your performance in the course.
  • Sessions will be offered on a first come, first serve basis by registration with Lansing Community College. (We ride rain or shine)

Interested in Becoming a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Certified Rider Coach?

If you are an experienced rider with good riding and communication skills, you may qualify to become a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) certified Rider Coach. Becoming an MSF Rider Coach is a great way to improve your own abilities while helping others to learn or enhance their riding skills.

To become an MSF certified Rider Coach you must, at a minimum:

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Have a valid driver's license with a motorcycle (CY) endorsement.
  • Successfully complete a Rider Coach Preparation Course.
  • Have no more than six points on your driving record for moving violations during the 12 months before applying for approval as a Rider Coach.
  • Be sponsored by a Michigan Department of State approved public or private organization that offers rider safety training courses.
