Most commonly known as drones, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) are increasing rapidly in every industry to more efficiently collect data and go where humans cannot; from animal tracking to aiding law enforcement to inspecting critical infrastructure, UAS has an unlimited potential of use. This has created a need for trained and certified pilots.
This Drone Pilot and Maintenance certificate prepares students for positions in industries utilizing Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) by providing foundational knowledge and skills in UAS mission planning, safe flight operations, software & image applications, UAS maintenance, laws and regulations, and data analytics.
After or during the first semester, students will be eligible to test for their Part 107 Drone Pilot Certification which enables them to fly drones commercially. An extra test fee may apply. There is also a great deal of drone flight in each class, which is important to potential employers.
Lansing Community College is proud to participate in the FAA UAS Collegiate Training Initiative. This partnership will ensure that LCC drone certificate-holders have the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a successful career in a UAS-related field. LCC will continue to support the FAA's efforts to expand the aviation workforce of the future while providing additional opportunities for Science Technology Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) students.
