Collections Mission
The LCC Archives is the official repository that collects, preserves and provides access to materials documenting the history of Lansing Community College.
Collections Scope
Topics of materials collected for the LCC Archives include the establishment of the College; changing organizational structure and daily operations; the buildings and social dynamics of the LCC campuses; and the campus neighborhoods both before and during their time as LCC property.
Items Collected
The LCC Archives will focus on content, rather than format. Collected items will consist of primary materials, LCC publications, oral histories and select memorabilia.
- Primary materials are defined as “materials containing first-hand accounts, created during or very shortly after the events being related therein.” Primary materials may include paper documents, digital files, photographs or other media.
- LCC Publications include any material published by the College and/or under the auspices of a College department or program. The LCC Archives strives to include at least one copy of every LCC publication. These include publications by student, faculty and staff organizations and clubs. Examples include books, periodicals, brochures, phone directories, student newspapers, course catalogs and course schedules.
- Oral histories consist of taped audio and/or video interviews and typed transcripts of such interviews. Interview subjects are people associated with LCC and that are relevant to its history.
- Memorabilia or artifacts will generally not be collected, but acknowledging that LCC facilities do not include a museum, exceptions may be made in instances when the memorabilia or artifact is deemed of special historical significance or retains potential value as an exhibition display piece.
