The gymnasium in LCC’s Gannon Building is currently undergoing a number of renovations.

“It’s exciting,” LCC Athletic Director Greg Lattig said. “We are getting new lighting, new water systems and they are renewing the HVAC system.”

Due to the construction, the gym has locked doors until further notice.

“It’s a step-by-step process; we are hoping (it will be done) around winter break,” Lattig added.

The construction has halted home games for any fall sports that normally take place inside the gym. This is resulting in teams having off-campus home games.

“Right now our volleyball team is using the Lansing School District's Don Johnson Fieldhouse,” Lattig said. “Our basketball team is practicing either at the Lansing School District or a local college.”

The construction has impacted not only the team schedules, but the student/athletes’ lives as well. Women’s basketball player Skyy Lockhart said she understands the situation, but has regrets.

“Though I am grateful for a renovation of the gym, I also am saddened because of not being able to play on our home court for a while,” Lockhart said. “The floors were sometimes wet because of the ventilation … not sure what caused it.”

The gym is not the only renovation being done in the athletic department.

“Our offices are actually going to get renovated, which will be nice,” Lattig said. “We are going to have a nice place for our student/athletes to meet.”
