With the upcoming midterm election on Nov. 8, LCC has partnered with Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope and the Lansing City Clerk’s office to bring voter registration to LCC’s campus.

From Sept. 19 through 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., students of LCC will have the chance to not only collect information on voting, but to also become registered to vote, Swope announced.

“I am proud to work with Lansing Community College to connect with some of these citizens who may be attending LCC,” Swope said. “We want to make it as convenient as possible to become engaged.”

The event will be held outside of the main campus Arts & Science building. There will also be a drop box at Fire Station #1 on the corner of Grand Avenue and Shiawassee Street for Lansing voters to drop off their absentee ballots.

LCC students, including Lydia Rose, said they are excited to see voter registration come to campus.

“That sounds like a great way for students, especially students who are just turning 18, to get registered,” Rose said. “It makes it way more accessible for a lot of people.”

Fellow student Owen Michael Kozdron said he knows how important voter awareness is.

“I think it’s great LCC is bringing voter (registration) to the students, because most students likely don’t know where to start,” Kozdron said. “Voting is a crucial part of expressing our freedom and opinion, so encouraging people to utilize their vote is powerful.”
