The LCC volleyball Stars defeated Kalamazoo Valley Community College 3-0 at home in the Gannon Building on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

“We served strong and then we executed, hit well, (and) were consistent with that, so they were really gelling,” LCC Coach Emily Quintero said of her players.

LCC won each of the games against the Cougars, 25-10, 25-14 and 25-14. Stat leaders for the Stars’ included Anna Hoch with eight kills, Karsyn Near with 29 assists, Katie Comstock with four blocks and Katelynn Davis with 10 digs.

“Since we have played them before, we had to make sure we did not underestimate them,” LCC freshman Christina Williams said. “We went in as if they were a brand new team, so we just played our game and made sure we were not focusing on anything they were doing, and just focusing on our part.”

Prior to this match, LCC played in the Grand Rapids Raider Challenge at Grand Rapids Community College on Saturday, Sept. 5 and Sunday, Sept. 6.

On Saturday, the Stars went 1-1 on the day with a 3-0 victory against Muskegon Community College and a 3-0 loss against Carl Sandburg College.

LCC finished out the tournament strong on Sunday, going a perfect 2-0 on the day with 3-0 sweeps over Oakland Community College and Kalamazoo Valley Community College, respectively.

Through Tuesday, the Stars’ record was 18-5 overall and 7-0 in MCCAA Western Conference. LCC volleyball is back in action on Thursday, Sept. 9 at Southwestern Michigan College.
