The LCC volleyball team finally got to play in front of a home crowd for the first time in 2024 on Tuesday, Sept. 17, earning a 3-0 blowout victory against Southwestern Michigan College.
“I think our coverage went really well so when our hitters would go in and hit, we had players underneath them,” LCC Head Coach Emily Quintero said.
“So, if there was a block, a deflection; they did a good job picking those up and then we continued to rally back. That made a huge difference for us.”
LCC won each of the sets in the following order 25-15, 25-22 and 25-16. Team leaders for the Stars included Anna Hoch with 11 kills, Karsyn Near with 32 assists, Katie Comstock with two blocks and Caroline Hengesbach with 11 digs.
“I think our connection was (great) tonight,” LCC sophomore Katelynn Davis said. “We were very good at communication, we had the energy that has been on and off for us, and I think we just came out to play.”
The win improved LCC’s overall record to 10-4 overall and its MCCAA Western Conference mark to 2-0.
Next up for the Stars is a matchup at Glen Oaks Community College on Tuesday, Sept. 24 against the Vikings.
