LCC volleyball is coming off an impressive week of action, carrying a six-game win streak to the end of the week.

“Team morale is high,” LCC Head Coach Emily Quintero said. “We are working on still fine tuning some of the tasks that we are hoping to be better at.

“They are looking to tweak some of those things so it can be an even better performance for our own expectations.”

The Stars were in Ohio for the Owens Invitational Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 31 and Sunday, Sept. 1, where they were a perfect 4-0 on the weekend.

Saturday featured dominant (3-1 and 3-0) victories against Sandhills Community College and Edison State, respectively. Sunday showcased even more dominance from LCC with a pair of 3-0 match wins against Cuyahoga Community College and Danville Area Community College.

LCC capped the successful week on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at Muskegon Community College with a 3-1 victory over the Jayhawks. This brought the Stars’ overall record to 8-3.

“We are not done; we still have a lot of room to grow and are not going to be content with just the early-season victories,” Quintero said. “We keep pushing for more because we know we have more within us.”

As the team approaches the halfway point of the regular season, the Stars leaders in stats are as follows: freshman Christina WIlliams leads the team with 43 blocks and 93 kills so far. Sophomore Karsyn Near leads the team in assists with 337 and freshman Caroline Hengesbach is the leader in digs with 110.

“Working hard in practice and communicating with my teammates has made me one of the top passers on the team especially with digs,” Hengesbach said. “I feel like it has to go with making every practice count and every rep count (while) not just going through the motions.”

Next up for the Stars is a matchup at Mott Community College on Monday, Sept. 9 against the Bears to wrap up non-conference play.
