The LCC women's volleyball season is underway with an impressive record of 6-0. The
Stars’ next game is at the Owens Invitational in Perrysburg Ohio against Parkland
College on Friday, Sept. 1.
LCC Head Coach Emily Quintero said she is looking forward to this match and the rest of the schedule. She said Parkland College is nationally ranked and she believes it will be a great challenge for the Stars.
The Stars’ 6-0 start can be attributed to hard work, according to Quintero.
“The biggest part to us winning has to be the girls' effort,” Quintero said. “They have had some really tough practices and worked hard during them and it translates to the game.”
Out of the six matches the Stars have played this season, they won four of them without letting the other team take a single set.
LCC has eight familiar faces returning for their sophomore year this season, with five new recruits joining them.
“We have a big returning class of sophomores who have a win-now mindset,” Quintero said. “The freshmen have responded well to it.”
With sophomore Danika Fyan leading the team with 52 kills and sophomore Macey Beyerlein leading with 73 digs, the team has been performing at an elite level.
The Stars have had a better start than last season, a year in which they finished with a 14-18 overall record and an 8-4 mark in the MCCAA Western Conference.
Conference matches start at home on Tuesday, Sept. 5 against Muskegon Community College, with Mott Community College coming to LCC the following the next day.
