Although computers and coding may not be for everyone, LCC sophomore Tori Tenlen is in love with what she does on the daily.
Tenlen is pursuing an associate’s degree in computer science. Tenlen is from St. John’s, where she discovered a love of computers from an early age.
Although she had never taken a class before, she learned how to code simple website pages and designs.
“I’m not really sure how I got into it,” Tenlen said. “I was always curious about it and, one day, I started looking up how to do this and how to do that and then it just escalated from there to be something that I really enjoyed doing in my free time.”
Tenlen said she has loved all of her classes at LCC so far and is extremely excited for her upcoming graduation in May. She said one of the most exciting classes she took was one where she learned how to code apps.
“I think I’m going to continue into that field, coding apps for phones and tablets and things,” Tenlen said. “It (the class) was so much fun and I was able to make my app look and act exactly how I wanted. I was really able to let go creatively and I’d love to continue to explore that part of myself and abilities.”
Haley Mitchell, a good friend of Tenlen, said she has never seen her friend so excited for something before.
“I’m really happy to see Tori excelling in her major,” Mitchell said. “I think a lot of us college kids are still kind of looking for what we want to do, and it’s really awesome that Tori was able to find her calling.”
