Say bienvenidos to the newest RSO at LCC: the Spanish Club.

Just in time for Hispanic Heritage Month, Club Adviser Julie Gloss, World Languages lead faculty, and a group of dedicated students are busy trying to get the Spanish Club started.

“I’m excited to meet new people, do fun activities and possibly help people conversate in Spanish,” said Club Co-President Andrew Rivera, a business transfer studies major at LCC.

In addition to helping students become more comfortable speaking in Spanish, the club would love to go on culturally significant field trips.

“We are trying to plan a trip to the Detroit area for something related to the Day of the Dead,” Rivera said.

The club began building up a strong foundation earlier this semester at the Student Resource Fair, getting emails from over 50 interested members.

So far, the club has only met once, to discuss future club activities, choose officers and begin establishing a more set schedule.

Members are hoping to have a second meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. to continue laying a strong foundation. A meeting location has yet to be determined.

To learn more and join the email list, email club Adviser Julie Gloss through the RSO site here or via email at glossj1@lcc.edu.

Unable to make it all the way to Detroit but still want to celebrate Hispanic culture? The Hispanic Heritage Committee at LCC is also hosting a Dia de los Muertos Celebration on Wednesday, Oct 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Activities will include sugar skull painting and the chance to create a group ofrenda, or offering, which will be on display in the newly renamed Cesar Chavez Multicultural Center until Nov. 5.
