The LCC softball team returned from spring training and had its first conference games of the season on Thursday, March 17 at Oakland Community College.
The Stars split the doubleheader, losing 6-5 in the first game and winning 7-6 in the second. The split left LCC with a 2-12 overall record.
“Our spring trip went well, although our record coming home (was) 1-11,” LCC Head Coach Marc Kibby said. “We played the number one-, five- and nine-ranked teams in Division 2 and played the number five- and 14-ranked teams in Division 1.”
So far this season sophomore Kara Mahoney leads the Stars with 12 hits and an average of .343.
Mahoney also had 10 RBI and three home runs to lead LCC. Sophomore Kyla Bird has 10 hits and an average of .244.
“Yes, we would like to come back with a better record, but what we learn as a team is the most important thing,” Kibby said. “We know we must get better and work harder for our goals for the season.”
