This past fall, LCC officially rebranded the Business & Economics Department as the “School of Business.”

With this rebrand, LCC’s programs in Accounting, Business, Insurance & Risk Management, Management & Leadership, Economics and Marketing have all been joined into one community.

LCC has even created a core set of business-adjacent classes for students to take to prepare themselves for a business degree.

Jeremy Davis, the director of the School of Business, said the original name of “Business & Economics” did not adequately fit.

“It was just a name that identified some of the programs,” Davis said. “When we looked at other community colleges and how they referred to their business departments, or how they were identified within their institutions, many of them identified as ‘School of Business’ or ‘College of Business,’ etc.”

Because of this, the department approached the provost and dean of Arts & Sciences to discuss the possibility of changing the department name. Fortunately, they agreed.

According to Davis, although the name has been changed, there were no changes made to the current curriculums and schedules for the specific degrees and certifications.

“I am a huge fan of the name change,” Davis said. “In my opinion, it brings validity and prestige to our department and shows LCC’s commitment to our students by providing them with a place to be excited and proud to attend. Rebranding also gives us the opportunity to showcase and highlight the amazing things our faculty are doing in the business industry.”
