Welcome Week continued to rage on at LCC’s downtown campus with a Student Resource
Fair on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
“I didn’t even know there was an event going on today,” said student Natalie Bachman. “I just heard the music blasting from inside Gannon and came outside to see what was going on!”
Music was provided by the LCC Vinyl Record Club. LCC President Dr. Steve Robinson, adviser of the VRC, could be seen rocking out to anything from Talking Heads to Mort Garson behind the turntable.
With so many resources available on campus, it can sometimes be difficult to understand exactly where to turn. William Reed, a computer science major at LCC, used the event as an opportunity to help a roommate feel more comfortable on campus.
“There was lots of great music, and I was able to show a first-year student all of the resources the campus has,” Reed said. “We were able to get a lot of great explanations about what those different services are and what they each provide.”
A total of 33 tables were set up from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those represented ranged from registered student organizations (LCC clubs) to various student services departments, including the LCC Library, the Office of Student Compliance, and LCC Connect.
Ann Marie Foley from the Office of Student Compliance said she was grateful for the opportunity to speak to students about the vital resources OSC provides.
“It’s important for the students specifically in my department because you don’t necessarily want to use what we do … but you want to know it's there, in case you do need it,” Foley said.
The Office of Student Compliance works with programs, including the Drug Awareness Program and
the Violence Against Women Act, to inform and empower students through tough situations to ensure their success in school, no matter what they are working through at home.
Giveaways and activities included prize wheels at many tables, LCC-branded merch, snacks, and even origami lessons from the Japanese Club.

Many students were seen using pamphlets and small flexible flying discs as makeshift
fans as they wandered around the event.
Despite the heat, students and staff alike kept their cool for this informative and engaging event. Many said they were surprised at the large turnout.
“We had similar turnout last year, but it was so hot out I didn’t think so many people would be coming through,” said Simon Medina, secretary of the Vinyl Record Club. “But I was pleasantly surprised!”
The club had an entire page of new members sign up, about 21 interested students, in under two hours.
