LCC Connect, the college’s revamped radio station, is launching a contest to find student Stars with something to say. Student ideas are sought for a new show in the first-ever “LCC Connect Podcast Power Up.”

The Podcast Power Up is a show-pitching contest for LCC students to share their voice and vibe on-air through WLNZ 89.7FM, as well as on-demand.

This contest, which begins Friday, April 15, is open to all currently enrolled LCC students. All formats, topics and ideas are welcome. Shows with an emphasis on highlighting the student experience at LCC are preferred.

Students planning to attend LCC in fall of 2022 are also eligible to participate.

Broadcast Services Manager Daedalian Lowry said he is excited about the contest.

“We’ve been using a phase-in approach to our Connect programming to include as much of the community as possible,” Lowry said. “We’ve already built a strong foundation with LCC staff and faculty fronting our current shows, and now we’re excited to move into the next phase; bringing students onboard.”

Lowry said the Podcast Power Up is going to be an excellent chance for LCC students to share ideas revolving around their personal interests and, based off that notion, possibly hosting their own podcast-radio program.

“Let’s face it, not everyone has a professional recording studio sitting around the house, so this is a huge opportunity for LCC students,” Lowry said. “To my knowledge, there is no other college or university that has a podcast and radio platform like LCC Connect, so to have students be a part of it – that’s awesome!”

The Podcast Power Up contest has two rounds. The first round of submissions will be accepted between April 15 and June 3. All submissions will be reviewed by a committee made up of LCC students, faculty and staff.

Finalists will be selected in June to participate in an in-studio pilot production of their show.

Guidelines for the contest, as well as a registration form, can be found at www.lcc.edu/powerup.
