The LCC Prism Alliance is hosting the annual Prism Film Festival on Thursday, Oct. 10. The event will feature a Pixar short written by Steven Clay Hunter and a mini-documentary by Stu Maddox.
The event will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the TLC Building, room 1202. After, the PRISM Alliance invites everyone to join for discussions, hanging out and pizza at Sir Pizza in Old Town. RSVP here to get a spot. People are meeting at 6:30 p.m.
“The LCC Prism Alliance is an employee group to support a safe and inclusive environment in which individuals
of all sexual orientations and gender identities may lead their lives openly and authentically,”
said Director of the Academic Success Coach Team Sarah Garcia-Linz.
“For our fall event we are hosting a mini ‘film festival.’ … There will be a short-animated
feature and a documentary. There are no fees, and all LCC employees are welcome to
attend.”
Garcia-Linz explained some of the film plots.“‘Out’ is a 2020 American animated short
film with a plot that features a young gay man who has not yet come out to his parents, who unexpectedly has his mind magically swapped with his dog’s,”
Garcia-Linz said.
“‘Reel In The Closet’ is a 2015 documentary following a film tech who discovers the real lives of queer
people in the past by restoring hundreds of never-before-seen home movies dating back
to the 1930s … But time is running out to save what’s left before the films are destroyed
by unknowing or unaccepting families of those who made them.”
She offered further information about LCC’s LGBTQIA2+ Club for students through Student Life.
“(This) is another great opportunity for folks in the community to meet and connect,” Garcia-Linz said. “We are here to help provide community and opportunities for LCC employees to connect.”
