LCC will be showing its LGBTQ+ pride all throughout the month of June.
Led by the Center for Engaged Inclusion, there will be weekly events in person, online and hybrid for students and community members to have their chance to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.
“I would highlight that students at LCC and in the community are encouraged to share their PRIDE with LCC in two specific ways: visual and audio,” said Laura Orta, the director for the Center for Engaged Inclusion. “We are asking for folks to submit a photo of how they celebrate PRIDE all year round, or in this joy-filled, important month of PRIDE.
“Once the month is over and all submissions have been collected, the photos will be professionally collaged together and displayed in October during LGBT2SQ+ history month.”
This week there will be an online discussion with the directors from Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, during which students and community members can talk about the WINS and DISAPPOINTMENTS in the news related to identity.
The following week, June 20 to 24, students and community members can stop by the Center for Engaged Inclusion in the Gannon Building to learn about the intersections of LGBT2SQ+, race, religion and more.
The last week of PRIDE month, June 27 to 30, there will be a movie night at west campus and PRIDE dance celebration on Thursday, June 30. This event will be held in the Center for Engaged Inclusion from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. There will be music, snacks, dancing and prizes for students to celebrate their PRIDE.
“LCC students are supported in their identities and/or intersectionalities 365 days at LCC with spaces in the Center for Engaged Inclusion to relax, talk, unwind, study, etc.,” Orta said. “The Chosen Name and Preferred Pronoun Initiative is where individuals can request their name and pronouns be a part of their LCC identity.
“And starting in the fall of 2022, an LGBT2SQ+ student group will be starting with (me) as the adviser.”
