LCC opened up the doors across campus locations to its brand new Pop-Up Pantry on Monday, Feb. 6.

This new Pop-Up Pantry is available daily at the west campus, Livingston County center and the Aviation Maintenance Technology Center locations. It will also be available every Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Gannon Building room 2214 at the downtown campus.

Dean of Student Affairs Ronda Miller said the Pop-Up Pantries are meant to ensure that all LCC students have access to food.

“The Pop-Up Pantry was created to address food insecurity faced by our students,” Miller said. “The pantries offer shelf-stable food to provide something for students to eat while they are on campus.”

The Pop-Up Pantries will not require that students apply or prove eligibility, and will also not keep a record of anyone’s information, in order to protect students’ privacy. LCC requires that students show a StarCard solely to prove they are an LCC student.

According to Miller, the following items are available at the Pop-Up Pantries:

  • Campbell’s to-go soups
  • Easy Mac and Velveeta Shells and Cheese
  • Chef Boyardee Lasagna, Spaghetti or Beefaroni
  • Hormel microwavable entrees
  • Fruits cups
  • Granola bars
  • Peanuts
  • Beef jerky
  • Soup and noodle bowls
  • Cheese and crackers

Julie Eiler, a student at LCC, said she was happy to hear about her community’s support.

“I think it’s awesome that LCC is able to provide students with free food who maybe can’t afford it otherwise,” Eiler said. “It’s great to see my school supporting their students like that.”

Upon request, the Pop-Up Pantries will also provide students with more information on how to apply for food assistance and for other food pantries.
