Visit the newly renovated Dart Auditorium on LCC’s main campus for a free-of-admission musical performance.

From Oct. 18 to 27, LCC will present “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.” All shows start at 7 p.m.

Percy is a teenager who discovers he is a demi-god. After one of Zeus’ lightning bolts goes missing, he and his friends must find it to save his mother, but may incite a godly war at the same time.

“We’re always excited to produce a musical here as part of our season, because students love to be in musicals and see them,” said LCC Performing Arts Coordinator Paige Tufford-Dunckel.

“‘The Lightning Thief’ is very popular since it's based, in part, on the novel by Rick Riordan. Most young people read the book in middle or high school, so they’re familiar with the story.”

The familiar story has now been brought to the stage and is for all ages, thanks to the adaptation by Joe Tracz.

“I really love this musical because there are great roles for our students, not to mention the music is amazing!” Tufford-Dunckel said. “I think the contemporary setting of the story with the connection to Greek mythology is an aspect that appeals to an audience.

“… We’re all familiar with the characters of Poseidon, Medusa and Cerberus and, in this production, we get to meet them and so many more. We also get to see them sing and dance. Who wouldn't love that?”
