There have been rumors that the college experience has been changing in the last few years post-pandemic; and not for the better.
People say the halls are deader than ever before and a sense of isolation still lingers. On Thursday, Aug. 24, however, that feeling was suspended at LCC as the annual “Party with the Prez” filled the Gannon Building cafeteria with a sizable crowd.
There was a photo booth, a dunk tank, a free lunch, giveaways, games, cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones and music from the retro band “Trilogy.” LCC student Michael Talton said he was surprised at the turnout.

Fire and Michael Jackson..Photo by Mallory Stiles
“There was a lot more people than I thought there was going to be,” Talton said. “The live band was cool, but my favorite part was just walking around seeing new faces and watching everyone interact and have fun.”
Students came from all directions. Some even confessed they skipped class to be a part of the festivities.
LCC student Janiece Jarrett attended the event and said she was grateful for the break.
“My teachers told me about this event today,” Jarrett said. “I got some free food, a free T-shirt and we did a raffle for some free prizes!”
While it is important to remember all of the fun that was had; it is also important to remember who made it all possible, which, in this case, is CASE Credit Union.

CASE Credit Union had its own booth at the event. Marketing Manager Jayme King stepped away to share a little history about the relationship between CASE and LCC.
“We are really about the community,” King said. “CASE is a credit union that started in the 1950s, here in Lansing, for the educational community, so we have actually been serving the teachers and administrators in the greater Lansing area with all of their banking needs since our inception.
“Because of that, we have a branch here on campus and we just want to do everything we can to help the financial standing of our members.”
Sincere acknowledgements also go to all the LCC staff members that made the event possible, and the caterers who served students such yummy food. Special mention goes to LCC President Dr. Steve Robinson for his special performance with the band on Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing,” as well as his annual appearance in the dunk tank.
May another amazing year begin at LCC.
