The LCC men’s basketball team suffered a, 82-78 home conference loss to Ancilla College on Feb. 15.

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak after the Stars took home a victory at Kalamazoo Valley Community College on Saturday, Feb. 11.

Against Ancilla, the Stars had a five-point lead at halftime, only to be outscored 48-39 in the second half. LCC Head Coach Mike Ingram said a lack of rebounding contributed to the second-half woes.

“We quit rebounding on the defensive end,” Ingram said. “We fouled every time down (the court), stopping the clock.”

Guard/forward Connor Bush led the way for LCC, scoring 18 points. Stars guard Dawson Lott scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and guard Freddy Johnson stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Ingram said there were different reasons for the loss as a whole, mentioning a lack of execution.

“I thought we got the shots we wanted, but (we) didn’t finish them,” Ingram mentioned. “We didn’t execute and took a couple of tough shots that, if they go in, they’re great. But we missed them, so they were poor shot selection.”

With just three games left, Ingram said there is a positive.

“We’re trying to make the playoffs,” Ingram said. “(The) only positive is a couple of teams we’re fighting with lost, too.”

The loss dropped LCC’s record to 10-15 on the year and to 2-7 in conference. Every upcoming game will be a conference game, with the next one coming at Lake Michigan College on Saturday, Feb. 18.
