This weekend the Greater Lansing area will be hosting multiple events and festivals for area residents.

The Mint Festival is located at 805 W. Park St. in St. Johns, about half an hour away from LCC’s main campus. This festival celebrates St. Johns mint farming season with craft shows, rodeos, kids’ activities, a parade and much more.

The Mint Festival will be going all weekend long. On Friday, Aug. 12, the festival will run from 2 to 8 p.m. On Saturday hours are 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., and Sunday hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Loretta Osborn, the Recruitment and Outreach coordinator at LCC, said LCC’s Office of External Affairs will be among those sponsoring this event. As a sponsor, the college is given a vendor table along with participation in other activities throughout the event.

“The Health and Human Services Division, along with the Technical Careers Division will oversee the vendor table each day of the Mint Festival, providing information on our divisions and college programs,” Osborn said.” On Friday afternoon and evening, Scott Nigoff from Tech Careers will kick off the festival and supply information related to Technical Careers.

“Over Saturday and Sunday the Health and Human Services Division will cover the table with day and evening shifts overseen by staff members Bethany Fedewa and myself. (We) will be accompanied by two Dental Hygiene students on Saturday and four students on Sunday.”

Osborn said the Dental Hygiene students will provide oral healthcare education to the community members, as well as distributing fliers on the dental clinic.”

Morgan Dowling, one of the dental hygiene students involved with the festival, said she is excited to see what the festival is all about.

“I don’t know much about it besides that it’s a festival all about ‘mint,’ but I’m excited to be with all of my dental hygiene friends while working a fun festival,” Dowling said. “And I’m also excited to spread the word about our dental clinic.”
