Are you a dabbler in writing? A dreamer? A lover perhaps? Or simply an interesting mind and soul filled with words just begging to be put to paper?
If any of that is the case, “The Washington Square Review,” LCC’s literacy review journal, is open to you for winter submissions.
According to the website WSG website, the journal is a 100-page book compiled with the work of students; potential masterpieces submitted with the chance of winning scholarships and recognition.
The Winter 2024 edition will include poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction submissions.
There exists a limit of five poems per submission. All fiction pieces should not exceed 5,000 words, one piece per submission. There is a 3,000-word limit for all creative non-fiction, including essays.
Other than the listed stipulations, the universe is the limit. Let your imagination run freely, open your heart upon paper, and have fun while you’re at it!
“The Washington Square Review” was founded in 1972 by English instructor Donia Nolden. Through a couple change of hands, the “The Review” has continued its great work in showcasing student work.
Due to budget cuts and the pandemic, “The Review” was suspended for a period of time, but is now revived under the leadership of creative writing professors Melissa Lucken, Susan-Serafin Jess and Rosalie Petrouske.
Originally, “The Review” was created to showcase only the work from creative writing students, but as time went on, it became open to any and all students, current and former.
Dig up those old stories forgotten in your files or notebooks. Get to writing, and unleash that creative cloak hiding within your soul.
All entries must be submitted electronically to WSR@lcc.edu before 11:59 p.m. Friday Oct. 27.
The recent Summer 2023 edition of the Washington Square Review is available online at Amazon.
Good luck to all, enjoy this fun bit of friendly competition and comradery within the Winter 2024 edition of “The Washington Square Review.”
