Kaitlyn's Korner: Grateful for LCC time

When some people head into college, they know exactly what they want to study. Some people don’t have any idea what they want to study; they just want to continue their education and figure it out later.
When I started college in 2018, I thought I had my path for the next few years planned out perfectly. My plan was to take my pre-requisite classes here at LCC, and then transfer to MSU for veterinary technology. Turns out, that’s not what life had planned, I just had yet to find out.
In 2022, I officially switched my studies to photography. I had planned to get my certificate of completion in photography, and hope during that time I could figure out exactly what type of photography in which I wanted to have a career.
The thing about switching to photography was, I had no idea what I was going to do after. I was so dead-set on one thing for so long, that I hadn’t even thought of alternatives. I was completely lost.
Enter The Lookout. After getting the photo editor job at The Lookout, which I had heard about from an instructor, I was introduced to someone who would help me find the path that I now believe I was supposed to be on the entire time.
Our Editor in Chief Mallory Stiles one day made an offhand comment to me about hoping I was also planning to go to MSU for the next school year. The truth was, I had given up on the plan of transferring once I switched studies.
But I have officially been accepted into MSU’s journalism program and plan to focus on photojournalism starting next fall. I absolutely can not wait, and also still can’t believe that I’m actually going to MSU.
There are no words for how thankful I am for my time at LCC, and all of the experiences I have had while I was here. So much personal growth and learning about myself has happened on this campus, and I will never be able to forget it.
But to those of you who may still be struggling with what you want to do in the future, just hang in there. The path you’re looking for might show itself in the most unexpected place.
