Jayden's Journal: Anniversary fun

On Friday, March 10, my girlfriend Baylie and I celebrated our first anniversary together. March is a rather cold time, so doing something outdoorsy like we usually enjoy was out of our control.

Instead, we rented an ‘Airbnb’ for two nights in Belding. It was $200 total. It was a rather cheap place to stay in comparison to some other rental properties.

The house was fantastic. It was located on Big Pine Island Lake, right near the water. Of course the water was frozen, so it was more for the view than anything.

We didn’t do much, which was the intention. It was a weekend away from anything we do, and anyone we knew.

We enjoyed our great, yet small rental home by watching movies all weekend, such as “Longshot,” featuring Seth Rogen, “House Party,” (the new one) and several more.

We also caught up on our TV series, including “Abbott Elementary” and “The Last of Us.”

My girlfriend and I also decided to make our own food for the weekend. We made brownie sundaes, and my world-famous grilled cheese, among many other things.

Belding and the surrounding areas didn’t seem to have much to offer in the things-to-do department, but we also went during a snowy March, I can’t fault the area too much.

We stopped by the local Walmart and found some Girl Scout cookies as well. Girl Scout cookies happen to be some of my favorite snacks ever, especially the Tagalongs, or what they’re now called: “Peanut Butter Patties.”

We had a fantastic weekend. Sometimes doing a small getaway is necessary. The anniversary getaway will remind me that there are places similar to what we stayed in all year long, just in case we both need another mini-vacation.

It may sound like an uneventful anniversary, but it’s exactly what both of us wanted, and that’s all that matters.
