Kelly's Korner: LCC needs soccer teams

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world and for good reason! It’s like basketball for your feet, sometimes mixed with the roughness of American football.
I will never forget the time I collided with an opposing player and my tooth tore a hole through my lip. And that is only one of the glories of soccer.
It is one thing to watch, but it is a different story when you play. The adrenaline pumping through your body, the feeling of your cleats running over the turf, and the race to the ball is an unforgettable sentiment.
Growing up I always loved soccer. As a kid I was a player on a little league team in my hometown. I even remember scoring my first goal!
I also played for my high school’s soccer team and a local team for teenagers as well. I enjoyed the sport so much that I wanted to participate on a college level.
Sadly, Lansing Community College does not offer a men’s or women’s soccer team as a sport. I would really love to see LCC put together a team for the school. I think it would open up an opportunity for those who love soccer just as much as I do the chance to play.
Offering another sport for students can bring forth more student/athletes, promote physical health and also increase LCC’s student engagement and audience.
If there are any students who love the game of soccer as I do, write to LCC Athletic Director Greg Lattig about your interest to start a team for LCC at lattigg@lcc.edu.
