When looking for new places to try, I always lean toward places that serve breakfast all day. Athena’s Diner not only does this, but has a wide variety of other meals as well.
Athena’s Diner is located at 3109 S. Cedar St., just about a six-minute drive from LCC’s main campus. It is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. every weekday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays.
When walking into the diner, I was immediately greeted by the smell of something fantastic cooking in the kitchen. It is a seat-yourself restaurant, so I found a table, and was almost immediately greeted by a waitress handing me a menu, and asking what I would like to drink.
The menu is extensive, and Athena’s has a wide variety of sandwiches, burgers, salads, and just about every other traditional diner fare you can think of. And there are some Greek options as well.
I decided on a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream, and a side of bacon.
My food came out relatively quick, and still warm. The waffle was a thin waffle, not a thick Belgian type waffle, but the amount of strawberries and whipped cream more than made up for it.
And unlike most places, where a side of bacon is two or three pieces of sad bacon, I was given five pieces of nice crispy, but not too tough, bacon.
My waitress was absolutely fantastic. She was extremely kind and quick. And watching the other waitresses interact with people who seemed like regulars, I feel comfortable saying the entire wait-staff is fantastic.
Everything was delicious. My food and chocolate milk cost $21.25, before a tip. For the quantity and quality of the food and staff, I highly recommend visiting Athena’s Diner if you are looking for a place with good diner fare.
