Most of the time, I try to avoid East Lansing because there are too many people, but an establishment known as “Playa Bowls,” located at 225 E. Grand River Ave., piqued my curiosity.

Parking was difficult, but I was able to make it work and find the place pretty easily. From what I had heard, this business only sold bowls of fruit, so I asked the girl behind the counter to pick for me.

She said a lot of smoothies were popular, but quickly adjusted her advice when I told her chocolate is my kryptonite.

She chose the “Nutella Acai Bowl” for me, which was Acai topped with banana, strawberry, granola, Nutella and coconut flakes.

Acai is apparently a berry that contains loads of antioxidants which are known to protect cells from damage, but the taste is just not my favorite.

I loved the toppings with all my heart, but the Acai took up too much of the bowl for the $13 I spent. However I would go there again, maybe for a smoothie.

The atmosphere felt very hip, but the space was a little too small to bring a large group. There was a short wait and I will say that the bowl looked like a work of art by the time it made it into my bag.

Lastly, I would like to compliment the staff. They had a small kitchen space to work in, but they helped each other, moved around each other with grace and managed to smile at every customer.

Overall, I would say that it was worth the try but not something I would go out of my way for. That being said, the menu is extremely large and probably has a little something for everyone.
