Five Guys has been one of the country's most famous burger restaurant chains since 1986. The price has increased over the years, but the quality remains the same.
I recently visited the Five Guys location at 623 E. Grand River Ave. in East Lansing; in the heart of the Michigan State University campus.
The first thing I noticed when I walked in the door was the smell of grease and fries. The store has free peanuts near the register for customers to take.
As I scanned through the menu and noticed the prices, I immediately thought about customers who are college students, because it is on a college campus. The high prices made a huge impression during my experience.
I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with ketchup, mustard and onions (the condiments are free), an order of Cajun fries and a fountain drink. The total of the food was $21.91. After adding on a 5 percent tip, my final bill was $23.01.
This price for a burger, fries and a drink was costly to me, although I did not order the cheapest items on the menu.
It only took around seven minutes to receive my food. I did not dine in because the small parking lot has parking meters.
On the way home, I started eating the Cajun fries in the car and they were really good. If you like a little bit of seasoning on your fries, I would highly recommend them. By the time I got home, the fries were gone.
The burger itself was a pretty good size. It had great flavor and was very filling.
If you are on a diet and or track your calories, this might not be a very good place for you. After counting all my calories it was a little over 1400 calories, which is more than half of my daily goal.
The food was delicious and it will keep you full for a long time, but the price is very off-putting. I would not recommend eating at Five Guys if you are on a budget.
